I Wish You Would
Renowned for his wit and comedic brilliance, Trevor Noah has earned a nomination in the "Best Comedy Album" category for his Netflix comedy special titled "I Wish You Would". Not only is he a nominee for the night, he is also set to host the prestigious awards ceremony again!
The celebrated former host of "The Daily Show" has consistently delivered incisive commentary and humor, earning accolades globally. His Grammy nomination stands as a testament to his ability to navigate complex issues with a touch of laughter.
In fact, yestersay (15 January) he received an Emmy award for "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" in the best variety talk show category. That's really cool considering that he's last episode for the show was on December 8th. What a send off, right?
Other nominees in the Best Comedy Album category are: Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman and Wanda Skyes.
Tyla
Water
On the musical front, Tyla has emerged as a breakout artist, garnering widespread acclaim for her "Water" song which encompasses a distinctive amapiano sound (which she calls popiano). Nominated in the "Best African Music Perfomance" category, Tyla's musical prowess and unique style have resonated with audiences, propelling her onto the international stage.
Her nomination does not come without challenges, though, as she is up against these fellow African stars: Asake & Olamide, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy and Davido (feat. Musa Keys).
Davido
UNAVAILABLE (feat. Musa Keys)
Also, let's not forget Musa Keys who also earns a nomination through Davido's "Unavailable" where he features in. This is another song that has been making waves globally.
As these exceptional talents represent South Africa on the global stage, their nominations also serve as a source of pride for the nation. You know it's going to be epic if they get this gold. Remember last year when Zakes Bantwini and company won a grammy? Celebrations were shortlived as people questioned how a song they have never heard before won such a renowned award. Surely things will be different this time if either nominees win.
Anyhoo, when are we seeing South African hip-hop acts on that grand stage? Personally, that is what I long to see.
